The smurfs can be a really funny fancy dress idea for a group of people or for a cartoon theme fancy dress party. The great thing about this costume is that it is very use to make and also lots of fun. The fun part comes when you smother yourself and/or your friends in large amounts of blue body paint.
There are some simple accessories that go with the blue all over look. No smurf is complete without his fancy dress smurf bonnet and pair of shorts. That’s all there is to a basic smurf costume. However if you are going in a group you might decided to branch out an try some of the other smurf characters.
Papa Smurf Costume
Papa smurf is the elder statesman of the smurf world so if you have an older person in the group, or perhaps someone who just acts older than their age, then it could be a good idea to dress them up in a granpa smurf fancy dress costume. This is similar to a normal smurf costume but with a few key twists. Papa smurf has a big bushy white beard, a red smurf bonnet and red trousers. Smurfette
Smurfette was the only girls in the smurfs – which poses quite a few questions about smurf procreation habit, but I digress. To get a smurfette fancy dress costume you need to go for the usual smurf blue bodypaint, a flowing bright yellow wig, a daisy in the hair and classy little white dress.
Handy Smurf
Handy smurf is variation on the standard smurf. He wears overalls. So to get this look go for some dungarees, a plastic saw, a fake platic log and stick a pencil behind your ear. Then you can go around “fixing” things.
Gargamel
Gargamel is the arch enemy of the smurfs and tries everything to destroy them. To make a Gargamel fancy dress costume you need to capture the odd clothes her wears. I think the closest thing I can find to the weird thing he wears is a monk’s habit. These are readily available online and in costume stores. Add some cute little shoes, some arched bushy eyebrows and carry a big blue book of magic and you have your costume.
Azrael
Azrael was Gargamel’s cat. It would be fun to turn up to a smurf theme fancy dress party dressed as a cat and smugly look as people work out whether you got the wrong email. After a while they’ll get it.
Brainy Smurf
Is there someone it of in your group of chums who is a bit of a clever clog… or at least thinks they are? Well a brainy smurf fancy dress costume sounds perfect for them. Just take a normal smurf costume add a pair of nerdy Harry Potter style glasses and slap a big book under their arm. You also have to capture the smugness and annoying nature of the character. Maybe that will take some practice.
Vanity Smurf
Vanity smurf loves himself. He is always to be seen admiring his good looks in a mirror he carries with him. Would this be a good costume for someone you know?
